Researchers are starting to rely on cloud computing to drive decisive science at difficult speeds, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) wants to fuel the pace of new discoveries by allowing all scientists to have their own supercomputers in the cloud.
Today, AWS is committed to making it easier for scientists to use their storage, cloud computing, and database services, by foregoing the cost of producing data for qualified researchers and academic clients; These are fees associated with the transfer of AWS data to the Internet. The maximum reduction is 15% of total monthly expenses on AWS services, which is several times the usual use of our research clients.

Professor Tony Hey, chief scientist, Council on Scientific and Technological Facilities (STFC) said:
"I am delighted that AWS is taking this step to eliminate the uncertainty over the exit price for using its cloud infrastructure research after extensive discussions with Jisc and GÉANT." Researchers often think that the perception that they will receive large accounts for data downloads discouraged them to consider commercial cloud providers for their computing and data needs.
The cloud has a huge amount to offer in terms of agility and efficiency gains, as well as unique capabilities in areas such as machine learning. This is a very successful development of AWS, and I hope other cloud providers move quickly to do the same.

AWS customers are eligible to waive exit fees under this program if:
• Work in academic or research institutions.
• Perform all research workloads or academic workload. However, some applications, such as data service service, are not allowed by this program, such as web hosting, multimedia streaming or mass-in-line software (MOOC)
